2011 Global Money Champ Speaks
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - It was a tough day here at MGAWHQ when we realized we had to let a trophy leave the bay area. We knew it was only a matter of time, what with the rapid expansion of the MGA universe, but it still hurt. But like true mrofessionals, we swallowed our pride and set out to interview our 2011 Global Money Champion, BostonMGA's Randy "The Fuzz" Peach.

MGA: First off, congratulations on your title. Do we assume correctly when we say this is the greatest accomplishment of your life?
Fuzz: Of course it is, however it would’ve been epic to cap off the season with a victory at the World Championships. I guess that’ll have to wait til next year.
MGA: Yea, you came up just short of the perfect season. You had a very consistent season finish-wise in your chapter with lots of first and second places, but an erratic season score-wise ranging from mid 80's to 120+. Much like MGA great Todd Benoit (2009 Global Money Champ), you seem to be able to adjust your game at-will to be just barely better than your competition. Do you feel this is true and how do you do it?
Fuzz: My consistent finishes last year say more about the other Medios in the Boston chapter than about me as it shows you can still come in 2nd or 3rd place with scores in the mid 90’s. They are really terrible golfers and even worse human beings. I think the varied scores throughout last year show that I have little to no control over my game. I probably played the worst golf I ever have last year and still managed to stay atop the money list…Thanks Boston.

MGA: You forgot to mention that they are horrible people... wait, no, you got that in there, phew. What was the turning point this season for you? When did you feel like you had a shot at winning the whole thing?
Fuzz: 1st tee at the Rebel Beach Am-Am. I’m kidding. That 1st tee (and round) made me want to quit golf altogether. I knew I had it in the bag after watching a copy of “Leslie Nielsen’s Stupid Little Golf Video” that I won at the inaugural Leslie Nielsen Indoor Classic we held in Beantown before the regular MGA season began. Haney is a hack - Nielsen’s where it’s at!

MGA: What is the highest score you've ever gotten on one hole?
Fuzz: 14 (as far as I can remember)
MGA: Follow up question. Was that hole at the MGA World Championship?
Fuzz: Indeed. I couldn’t get out of the fairway bunker on the 9th no matter how hard I tried. As we were driving up to the 10th tee box I remember saying to myself that if I shot Par (nine munder) for the back 9 then I could still break 100. I think I rebounded and parred the next couple of holes but then the numerous beers I drank on the front 9 started to catch up with me and I completely lost it.
MGA: Yes you did. You shot a 122 and tied for 63rd. We've heard the scorecard's version (never lies by the way), now here's your chance to give us yours.
Fuzz: I have a few “Dont's” that I follow before/during an MGA sanctioned event:
1. Don’t use the driving range or putting green before the round
2. Don’t drink beer before the 1st tee
3. Don’t take practice swings during the round
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to hold myself to any of those. That threw me off my game more than anything else. Towards the end of the round I was hoping to have a shot at the highest round of the day and/or maybe get a Meltdown Award but it just wasn't meant to be.

MGA: We actually couldn't be happier that you shot a 122 in the final round of your Global Money Championship season. It just proves to everyone out there that in this modern era of disturbingly low scores winning in the MGA, mediocre golfers can still succeed and take home the big prizes. So how are you preparing during the offseason for your title defense?
Fuzz: I prepare by not preparing.
MGA: You've now had two caricatures drawn of you (Chapter money champ '10, Global money champ '11), which version do you like better? Also, has the fact that we've now drawn you twice with a bent-ass putter had any effect on your putter smashing habits?
Fuzz: They’re both pretty good. I retired the bent putter after the ’10 season so this year’s caricature isn’t 100% accurate but I am digging the beard and the stacks of cash. My Nike sponsors appreciate the free advertisement as well.

MGA: What is the strongest part of your game?
Fuzz: Not giving a shit.
MGA: How far do you hit your driver when it goes straight? What is your typical miss when it all goes wrong?
Fuzz: Not very far even though I’ve won my fair share of long drive MGA bumper stickers in the past 2 seasons but a few of those times I won because I was the only one who ended up on the fairway. The driver was generally my most consistent club but I rarely used it last year because I couldn’t hit it straight to save my life so I used my 3-wood a lot. I brought the driver back out during the MGAWC but it obviously didn’t help my score so that club may not have a home in my bag for the upcoming season.
MGA: Do you have any tips for Medio's out there struggling to break into the money?
Fuzz: Stop practicing! Don’t waste all your good shots at the range.
MGA: Lastly, what do you plan to do with the $6.940,000 you won last season?
Fuzz: That money is long gone…Wasted it on some slots at the Palace Station.
MGA: Very John Daly of you. Thank you for your time and good luck with the upcoming season.
