The Champ Speaks!
El Presidente: Dave, you're a long time member of the SFMGA. How did you hear about the MGA initially and what made you think it was the place for you?
Dave: Martin Brohm was the one who led my way in to the MGA. I figured "what the hell, they can't be any worse than Martin". He set the bar pretty low!

EP: I bet Martin (winless in 2011) is regretting that decision now. 2010 was a breakout year for you on tour, taking your first win at the Bastards and finishing in a tie for 5th at the MGAWC's. Did you ever imagine you would suck as bad as you did during the regular season in 2011 and then follow that up with a World Championship?
Dave: 2011 was a really mediocre year, even in a mediocre golf group. The thought of winning the MGAWC was not even on my mind. I was just happy to be playing on Saturday and not "cheerleading" on the course for everybody else!

EP: Speaking of that, we forgot to announce that you made it through the LOIQ at the meet and greet. We apologize for that and you shoved it in our faces the best way possible by winning the World Championship the next day. You also made history by becoming the first player to come from the LOIQ to win the WC! Do you have any inspirational words for those other players out there who might be on the fence next year if they're considering coming to Vegas unqualified?
Dave: Yeah, get blind drunk the night before and make an ASS out of yourself on the bus ride home from the punk house! That pretty much will seal your deal. (Well it did for me!)

EP: What was the first thing you did with the belt when you got home?
Dave: After a long talk with the 2009 champ Todd Benoit, I had it tested for STDs. (And my 8 year old son, who put it on when I got home.)

EP: Do you currently have any plans for the belt for the 2012 season? We assume you'll do the full talk show circuit; Fallon, Kimmel and Lopez (What's that?..... Cancelled?!?! NNNOOOOOOOOooooo....) So anyways, any special plans for the belt?
Dave: I will probably shove it in all of your faces for the next 11 months. You know, bragging so much that by next November I will not have any friends in the MGA.
EP: You're doing a good job, we're only halfway through this interview and I'm starting to like you less already. What are your goals for 2012? With one major and one World Championship under your belt, would you ever consider lowering yourself to winning a non-major MGA event?
Dave: I might not even make it to any MGA events, maybe the Bastards. With a 5 year exemption into the MGAWC and holding the belt all year, why bother?

EP: That's very Tiger of you. I went up against you during the P.C.P.'s (Players Championship Playoffs, an offseason match play event) and you squarely kicked my ass straight out of the tournament. We only had a four hole match, but I think you went fairway-green-two putt on every hole. What do you consider the best part of your game and did it help you win the World Championship this year.
Dave: Playing with no expectation of winning helped. I was just happy to play that Saturday. Also, the 3 guys I was paired with kept me really mellow. Great guys, I would say thier names but this shit is about me! I guess I can also say that I drove the ball like a madman and putted like I had been playing those greens for 3 days in a row. Oh yeah, that was my 3rd round in a row.

EP: Lastly, how has making the cover of MedioQuarterly changed your life?
Dave: It's made me do a lot of hiding out and staying in doors out of the public eye. You've pretty much ruined my life by putting that out!!!! WTF

We'd like to thank Dave for this exclusive interview, we know it was hard to turn down the big money ABC and NBC were offering him. Dave is a fan favorite in the SFMGA and this World Championship is sure to raise his profile around the globe. All we hope is that he remembers the early days and all the little people when it comes time to negotiate his appearance fees for the next MGAWC.
