SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Now that the top 10 players in the World all have 4 or 5 tournaments in, we felt it was time to take a look at our leader of the GML.

A few weeks ago Mike Berk from BostonMGA replaced mystery-man Fred Avery from PhoenixMGA at the top of the GML. Rumor has it Avery grew frustrated with trying to figure out how to put up a picture and basic information on his profile page. So frustrated in fact, he decided to wash his hands of the MGA while leading the GML.

Enter Berk from stage left and get ready for an entirely different looking stage. A top medio, World Championship contender and the sole reason behind any quality pictures that come out of the BostonMGA, Berk is having a hell of a season. We wanted to know his secret, so we sent him a few questions last week and it wasn’t long before we heard back.

MGA: Mr. Berk, you've played in 4 out of the 5 BostonMGA events this year and won every single one of them. What's your secret?

MB: Please, call me the Golden Bear. My honest answer is I try to avoid the high numbers. 10s, 12s or even 16s will derail your round faster than Fred Willard got fired at PBS. The trees, rough and sometimes houses are unavoidable, so getting out of disaster quickly is key – I didn’t say it was doable, just that its key.

MGA: Rumor has it you will be missing The MGA in August. Are you doing this to give everyone a sporting chance?

Golden Bear: There is already a bounty on me in the Boston MGA. I figured if I didn’t skip this tournament, someone would slash my tires or go Tanya Harding on my knee. Also, my mother would be very angry at me for skipping my brother’s wedding.

MGA: I can’t help but wonder if Ferraro strategically set the date of the MGA to your brother’s wedding… I see you won The FORE! Championship with score of 100. Tell me, was there a blizzard that day or some other natural disaster that kept the entire field from breaking 100?

Golden Bear: That Donald Ross guy is a mother-cker and makes one hell of a tough golf course. I gave everyone the best opportunity to take The FORE! Championship down, I even golfed barefoot in the playoff.

MGA: What is your strategy for the remainder of the season? Will you be disappointed if you win every event you show up for and we don't credit you with a perfect season due to your less than perfect appearance record?

Golden Bear: My strategy for the remainder of the season is little chocolate donuts. Those things give me the strength I need to get through the 6 hour round. Little Chocolate Donuts. The donuts of champions.

I won’t be disappointed, ILL BE DEVASTATED but I’m already calling my 4 wins on tour “The Golden Bear Slam”, If I do win every tournament this year, I’d like there to be an exhibit in the MGA Hall of Fame dedicated to The Golden Bear – ill be sure to donate something.

MGA: If you donate a box of Little Chocolate Donuts we can talk. You're a shoe-in for the Medio Cup team at the World Championships. Is there any SF medio you hope to go up against head-to-head?

Golden Bear: Probably Mike Plemons - that guy really screwed up my fantasy team this year – but I think he shot an 82 at The Legacy last year to get him into the World Championship and would put the Golden Bear back into hibernation.

How’s that guy Max Lanier doing? What’s he shooting this year?

MGA: A lot, Max is shooting a lot.

Our thanks to Mike Berk for this exclusive interview (we better not see this shit on ESPN Berk) and stay tuned for next month, when SEAMGA's Tyler Newman will presumably take over the top spot by showing up for The MGA.

The Golden Bear MGA fantasy gravy train was showing no signs of slowing down but now my bid for a top 5 spot is about to come to a grinding halt because some maniac has to get married! Thanks Berks...hope you enjoy your salisbury steak and buttermints!!!!!!!!!!!

fantasy gravy train made me laugh!! But you should blame your fantasy dud J. Ryan who is giving you a whopping 59 fantasy points for not getting you into the top 5. 271st on the fantasy ranking isnt gonna get you what you need. mmmmmm Salisbury Steak and buttermints!

He was supposed to be my dark horse...questionable pick at the very least.
