MGA Buckeye Cup!
Along with the Cincinnati and Beavercreek MGA chapters, we are pleased to announce a new tradition for Ohio golf... the MGA Buckeye Cup!! Set to be held on Oct. 6, 2012 at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield, OH, it will most certainly be a tradition unlike any other.
Very similar to the Ryder Cup on that other golf tour, the best golfers (as chosen by the chapter leaders) from each chapter will compete against the other chapters' teams for none other than bragging rights. Each chapter will bring a team of 8 golfers plus alternates. Foursomes will be set up by pairing 2 guys from 1 chapter with 2 guys from another chapter. Each foursome will compete in 3 different golf formats: Best Ball Doubles, Alternate Shot Doubles and Match Play. The 2 teammates in each foursome will start out playing the first 6 holes using a Best Ball format and competing against the other chapter's pairing in their foursome. Holes 7-12 will be played using an Alternate Shot format against the other chapter where one member tees off, then his teammate hits the second shot and they keep alternating shots throughout the hole. Tee shots must also be alternated from hole to hole. Then finally, holes 13-18 will be Head-to-Head match play where Player A from one chapter plays against Player A from the other chapter. (Player B vs Player B).
The winning team will get possession of the coveted trophy for an entire year until the next Buckeye Cup is held. Additionally, each chapter will take turns hosting the event. As host of the event, the hometown advantage will be that they will get to choose the venue of the tournament. Since the inaugural event is being held in a neutral location, the winner of this year's event will get to host next year's event.
To be eligible to play in the Buckeye Cup, you must have played in 3 events prior to the event. We have 2 events left until the Buckeye Cup, so those of you who still need to get a 3rd event in have a little time to make yourself eligible. And I challenge everyone from all 3 chapters to make yourself eligible to participate. We may extend each team to 12 members plus alternates if we all have enough eligible members.
Team selections will take place after each of the 3 chapters have completed their Douchebag Invitational. We are still trying to figure out the best way to make the team selections a public event, so check with your leaders later on to see what we decide to do. If you don't make your chapter's team, you are encouraged to come out and heckle those that did!
Be sure to check out the event page created in the Columbus Chapter for more details. If you have any questions, talk to your chapter leader.
