MGAWC 2011 - The Hotel

The Saraha worked out well for its proximity to the strip and cheap hot dogs, but otherwise left a lot to be desired. We’re excited about this years hotel choice, the Palace Station Hotel and Casino. It’s actually only a few blocks away from the Sahara, but miles ahead of it when it comes to amenities.
*WARNING* Don't get all excited and go book a room after reading this. We have a group rate that is going to make it cheaper to book with us after MGAWC registration opens in August. Patience young medio, patience.
There are seven restaurants/cafes offering many different types of food. There’s even an oyster bar if you dare. We’re pretty certain the most popular food establishment will be the Grand Café, which offers its entire menu 24/7 and has moonlight specials from 11pm-6am. We’re not sure if they have booths, but if they do I’m sure they’ll be just as comfortable to sleep in as the Denny’s booths from 2009.
The MGA tends to take over bars when it comes to town and use them as a central meeting point. The Palace Station has many bars to choose from, but Jacks Irish Pub looks to be the early favorite. Lots of space for medios and more TV’s than you would ever need, the only things it may be missing is pop-a-shot basketball and a karaoke machine.

The tower rooms at the Palace Station are newly renovated and look like a great place to draw the curtains for 20 hours or so to try and shake off the hangover from Saturday night. We’re offering the option of the courtyard rooms as well, which are located behind the dumpsters in the back of the hotel. Needless to say, we’re stopping short of recommending them, but they are available if you're looking to save a few bucks.

Tower room. We're not sure if the giant bottle of orange juice is included, but the sledge wand on the bed most definitely is.

Courtyard room. Some crafty cropping and camera angles make the TV look like a flat screen and a bit of photoshop makes it look beautiful outside.
We strongly recommend everyone stay with us at the Palace Station. We have a good group rate locked in to help make it affordable for everyone. It will also be where the buses pick us up to take us to the course and the meet and greet, so it’s got that going for it… which is nice. And lastly, it’s just awesome to be able to walk downstairs and meet up with 60 of your new best friends.
Registration for the MGAWC will open August 1st. But if you know you’re going to go, book your flights ASAP because they’re not getting any cheaper.
MGAWC SCHEDULE:
Friday, November 11th - Practice rounds for pre-qualified players (Look in the rules section under the "about" tab to see who qualifies) and the L.O.I.Q. Tournament. The Last Opportunity In Qualification tournament is open to any MGA player who has played in three regular season events but still failed to qualify for the MGAWC. The top ten finishers in the L.O.I.Q. earn a spot in the MGAWC's the next day.
Saturday, November 12th - Mediocre Golf World Championships. Defending champion John James of the SFMGA will likely be relying on his "Past Champion" exemption status to make his way into the field this year. But that doesn't mean he's going to let go of that belt without a fight. Will you be the one to take it from him?!
How to qualify for the World Championship in November
5.1 Finish top 10 on your chapters money list
5.2 Win a regular season event
5.3 Past World Champions and Global Money Champions get five year exempt status
5.4 Finish in the top 10 in the LO-IQ (Last Opportunity In Qualification) (11/11/11) tournament in Vegas the day before the actual MGAWC’s (11/12/11).
