We could come up with some complicated formula that takes into account average score, average temperature, average barometric pressure and the variable effects of alcohol at the respective elevations of each chapter, but that would just be stupid. After all, everyone knows it’s a whole different ball game when you’re playing head to head versus someone and they have a chance to psych you out or buy you shots pre-round. That is why the all-new Chapters Cup will be held during the MGAWC’s on November 12th. Here are the rules.

CHAPTERS CUP - November 12th

Eligibility:

A chapter must have at least three members competing in the MGAWCS to qualify for the Chapters Cup.

Rules:

At the end of the MGAWC’s, the three highest finishing members from each chapter will have their scores added together, along with any penalty strokes they are carrying. The chapter with the lowest total score wins!

The Trophy:

The winning chapter will receive the Chapters Cup trophy with their chapter city and winning score engraved on it with a Dremel rotary tool by a drunk Jon Morley. The trophy will travel back to the home city of the chapter to be proudly displayed at each of their events the following season and rubbed in the faces of all the other chapters who didn’t win it. At the end of the following season, the winning chapter will bring the trophy back to Vegas with them to defend.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Chapters Cup will more or less settle who the best chapter is for the year. But we'd also like to see how the rest of the world is doing compared to the San Francisco chapter. That is why we have created the Medio Cup.

The Medio Cup is a Ryder Cup style team event that will pit the San Francisco Chapter (aka the original MGA chapter) against the rest of the world.  Individual accolades and trophies are one thing, but engaging in a team competition and representing your chapter is a higher calling and one that will instill pride in the winners of the event.  Also, you will get more ass…seriously.

THE MEDIO CUP - November 11th

Eligibility:

Technically anyone who shows up in Vegas is elibigle (for the captains pick at least).

How it works:

There will be 12 players on each team.  The captain of the SF team will be the previous years top SF money winner (Willie Gregory) and the team will consist of the top 10 from SF's 2011 money list plus one captains pick.

The global team captain will be the top global finisher from 2010 who is not from the SF chapter. So if Ryan Harper from SeattleMGA shows, he will be the global captain for this years Medio Cup. The rest of the team will be made up of the top 10 non-SF attendees from the 2011 Global Money List. There will be one captains pick for the global team as well.

The play:

The captains will decide who is going in what order and the competition will consist of 8 singles match play rounds and two fourball rounds.  All matches are worth 1 point and the first team to 5.5 points will win.  In the event that both teams finish with 5 points and tie, the captain and one player of his choosing will play a sudden death playoff using the total score of both players until a winner is decided.  Since this will be played at the LO-IQ there will be NO GIMME PUTTS.  Finish everything since some people will be trying to qualify for the next days World Championships.

The Trophy:

A traveling trophy that will be proudly displayed in the winning captains house for the year and will be up for grabs the next year.

The Shit Talking:

Should start early and continue through out the event.  We strongly encourage players to dress in matching sweater vests and turtle necks.

With these new competitions the MGAWCs is sure to transform from being not only the greatest single tournament of the year to being the greatest series of events of all time.  With so much on the line and so many trophies available it would be stupid to miss out on the MGAWCs.  You hear that?  Stupid.

MGAWC SCHEDULE:

Friday, November 11th - Practice rounds for pre-qualified players (Look in the rules section under the "about" tab to see who qualifies) and the L.O.I.Q. Tournament. The Last Opportunity In Qualification tournament is open to any MGA player who has played in three regular season events but still failed to qualify for the MGAWC. The top ten finishers in the L.O.I.Q. earn a spot in the MGAWC's the next day.

Saturday, November 12th - Mediocre Golf World Championships. Defending champion John James of the SFMGA will likely be relying on his "Past Champion" exemption status to make his way into the field this year. But that doesn't mean he's going to let go of that belt without a fight. Will you be the one to take it from him?!

How to qualify for the World Championship in November

5.1       Finish top 10 on your chapters money list

5.2       Win a regular season event
