PCFLMGA Douche Bag 2017

That’s a Wrap!

After a long delay due to the bitch known as Hurricane Irma, the Pinellas County Florida chapter got to play its final tournament of the season.

On Oct. 28, at the East Bay Golf Club, PCFLMGA finally played its Douche Bag Invitational. Twelve players registered for the event AND everybody pre-paid with PayPal! I’m glad that everyone finally caught on, because that’s the only way to pay next season! Not only were we playing for the championship of the Douche Bag, but we were also playing for the Chapter Money List winner which proved to be a close race right up to the very end.

The first group out started off with our Last Gasp Champ, Rip Potter, setting up from the back tees. From our perspective they looked like they were in a different zip code, but Rip played through like a true champion. On the flip side, our Red Key Winner from last month, Doug Jacobs, almost teed off from the normal tee box! While it wouldn’t have been a rules violation, we did want him to take advantage of the awesomeness of the Red Key! Billy “Bones” Cusick from the Tampa chapter, was playing his make-up Douche Bag. Turning in his usual great round, Bill ended up in a tie for the number 3 spot, with Barry Rose.

The second group led by Mike Garner took off right behind Barry and his group. Mike must have had a lot on his mind as he turned a score less than his normal stellar finish. Junior Hill played his normal, straight down the middle, game. Don’t know how he does it, but he’s never out of bounds! Joe Barci ended up taking the much coveted, beautifully designed, Red Key. He’ll be at the front tees to start next season off. Jack Cashon not only took the Long Drive award, but he also took home the awesome upside down golden “W”. Getting a little collection started there, Jack!

Last group of the day started out with another Tampa Chapter player, Carl Canestrano. Carl had his normal, awesome round and ended up in a tie for first with Mike Robin. After some extremely difficult scientific calculations, and a flip of the coin, Carl ended up the Champion Douche Bag. Carl also won Closest to The Pin as well as the Gross Award. Nice haul, Carl! Chris Adams – it’s back tees for Carl next season! Joe Bongo played straight and steady and turned in a respectable score. Also, Joe won the Golden Ticket raffle, which consisted of cash to be used toward his membership next year! Joe Carideo rounded out the field turning in his normal fifth place score.

Outside of our normal tournament awards, there was one more trophy to be had – The Chapter Money List! It was a closely contested race all season between Joe Carideo and Barry Rose. Rip Potter was making a good bid by moving up into 3rd place. There was only a $0.22 difference between Joe and Barry. A big win for Barry and a big loss for Joe and the lead could have easily changed hands. So after all the results were in and the checks were written out, Joe Carideo ended up taking the trophy by a slim margin of $0.14! The day also ended well for Joe as his MGA Fantasy Team took First Place!

As the Chapter Leader of the PCFLMGA, I want to thank everyone who helped make our Inaugural Year the success that it was. I especially want to thank the Spring Hill and Tampa Chapters for supporting us throughout the season and playing in several of our events. And finally, thanks to “El Presidente” Jon Morley who had to put up with my stupid questions at 2:00am, and for forwarding our emails that somehow went astray and ended up in his mailbox!

So, cheers to a successful first year and let’s start recruiting new members for next year!
