A piece of the Juggs fell off when it was awarde to Steven... not the important bit

Steven Edwards captured his first Bratish open, and his first MGA victory since 2016 in an epic battle versus the elements, a course where Nick Hinton described the tee boxes as "A chance of death with every shot" and a trophy which disintegrated the moment it was removed from the plastic. Congrats to Steven on a well-deserved victory - a stalwart of Asheville MGA and a threat if he makes it to Vegas this year.

On a side note, this tournament featured the first DQ in Asheville MGA history. In his first event since becoming a member, regular "guest who was always going to join", Gabe Skwara pulled out an even par second nine to clinch the 79 and the honor of first DQ.

In typical Asheville fashion, ten brave medios stepped up to the first tee at Broadmoor in various degrees of dishevelment. Only six of us would actually make it on to the leaderboard. After a torrid time on the 12th hole, described by the Chapter Leader as "The shittiest golf hole in the entire world", the accumulated wear and tear and hot day got to Maurice and Rick and they decided to call it a day.  Please come back guys - I promise the 17th at Black Mountain is not as bad as the 12th at Broadmoor! Gabe DQed, and Jared joined but ignored all calls to enter random scores in for a handicap, and so is denied a spot on the leaderboard.

Mediocrity reigns supreme in Asheville!

Michael and Grant battled valiantly for the key to the red tee, but Michael just pipped him and the curse of sharing a cart with the Chapter leader continues! Michael assures me that he is not going to use the red tees, but one look at the advantage he can get at Black Mountain may see him change his mind. Nick had a rough time from the poorly-kept blue tee boxes for his first gold M of the season.  George fell away at the end and ended up being the only legitimate meltdown of the day, as the improving weather allegedly made the back nine more playable. Iain continued his strong showing in the kinda long and came in second.  Gabe added a kinda close to his gross win and DQ.

Steven... bereft by his playing partners and suddenly finding the right side of his putter, stood alone conquering the layout with a stunning 83 and his first Major. Like a gopd champion, he waited for the small but dignified ceremony, and even collected his mediocrerewards stamp and not the bronze ticket winner envelope.  Good champion.

Asheville MGA returns with the MGA at Black Mountain on August 12th. This article is going up less than 24 hours before that torunament, so last call!
