Nothing better than a crazy busy month of golf events and tons of memories! We'll start with our trip to Louisville, Ky for our Ball and Chain tournament. This year we had 8 golfers (Paskal Rainsberger, Dakota Rainsberger, Brad Bixler, Ken Brodersen, Nate Beitler, Joe Middleton, Noah Middleton, and Jack Moreland) competing for the coveted title. The title came down to a great up and down on the 36th hole of the two day event. Yes, it was supposed to be a 54 hole event, but the rain got us on day 2. Day one was played at the beautiful Nevel Meade Golf Club. Dakota Rainsberger started out shooting a tournament low 78 with Brad Bixler right behind him with an 80, others were mid to high 80's. Day two was supposed to be played at Weissinger Hills, but the rain was too much and we had to suspend the round. Day three was at the highly ranked Heritage Hills. It was Paskal Rainsberger's day to go low shooting an impressive 80, but it wasn't low enough. It came down between Brad and Dakota both still shooting in the low 80's.. On the final hole of the tournament, with Dakota leading by one stroke and needing a par to win, he lands his approach shot short and left of the green with a tough angle to get anything close. Dakota then hits a great wedge shot to about 3 feet ,in which he hits, to secure his second straight win.
Ashland Chapter made our first appearance in the Buckeye Cup this past weekend. With this being our first Cup, we were in it to the very end. When it was all said and done we ended up in 3rd, missing second by 1 and first by 2. Very proud of all of our golfers who participated. This year's golfers were: Paskal Rainsberger, Dakota Rainsberger, Zack Finley, Mike Slone, Ryan Broders, Nick Broders, Ken Brodersen, Zane Fast, Nate Moore, and James Yates! Columbus did walk away with the Cup this year. Our leading point winners were Zack Finley and Marlin Martin. I would like to say thank you to Jon Wallace for putting this together this year, job well done. We're all looking forward to next year already.
With the season coming down to its final regular season event, the Last Gasp, this will decide our chapter money title. Marlin Miller is in the lead by a small margin over Paskal and Dakota Rainsberger, with a couple others with a slight chance. This year's tournament is being hosted by Oaktree Golf Course in Ontario, OH. This links course will play at roughly 6000 yrds. It has fairly wide fairways with water on a couple holes and o.b. on the right side of several holes. The greens are fairly big with lots of undulation. Whoever has a hot short game should be able to take home the crown and if a first-time winner, have the opportunity to go to Vegas for the World Championships.
