MILLSBORO, DE---Alex Perry had already claimed his second two-headed trophy in three years, sealing a four-shot team title in the Rebel Beach Am-Am Saturday at Plantation Lakes Golf and Country Club with teammate Mike Conklin, when it was determined he would participate in the playoff for the individual title.
After posting a net 92, tying with Tim Brennan, the pair went to a putt-off to decide who would walk away with the big check and $0.91.
Perry was able to two-putt each of his three tries on the quick Plantation Lakes greens, while one three-putt cost Brennan.
The victory is Perry’s second in the Mediocre Golf Association, with both wins coming in playoffs. He survived a four-man playoff to win the 2024 Bratish Open.
Perry and Conklin won the team title with a combined net score of 186, four shots clear of Brennan and Mike Thomason. It marks the third time Conklin has won a team championship in the Am-Am, having won in the Kent Island Chapter in 2023, before doing so twice with the Lower Shore Chapter.
Conklin finished third individually, with a net 94, followed by Steve Jones’ 96 and Mike Thomason’s net 98.
Frank Clymer picked up the long drive victory, striping a drive on the par-5 seventh hole. Thomason took the money hole, hitting it to 12’ 11” on the 165-yard 15th hole.
Dave Battista was Most Mediocre, with a net 105, while Will Lefort’s 57-64--121, with a seven-shot difference between the front and back nine, gave him the Meltdown Award. Lefort’s teammate, Kelly Shannahan, picked up the Key to the Red Tee, with a net 125.
The Lower Shore players next head to River Marsh Golf Club, in Cambridge, MD, for The Bastards, where Thomason will try to hold on to the Cream Jacket after his 2025 win. The event also serves as this year’s installment of the War on the Shore contest between the Lower Shore and Kent Island chapters.
