The Slug Index Is LIVE!

FROM NOW UNTIL THE END OF TIME, MARCH 29TH, 2019 WILL FOREVER BE KNOWN AS "THE DAY THE MGA SAVED GOLF." BECAUSE ON THIS VERY IMPORTANT DAY IN HISTORY, WE LAUNCHED THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON EVER CREATED IN THE WAR AGAINST SLOW PLAY. WE GIVE YOU... THE SLUG INDEX™.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Coming to you from the region famous for pointless "innovation" solving problems that don't exist, we give you a world-changing creation that might actually be useful in solving an issue that has plagued golf for generations.

Look at any article or poll whining about the issues facing golf these days and you'll see "pace of play" squarely at the top. The problem is, up to this point, no one has figured out a good way to help people pick up the pace. So once again, the MGA is tasked with leading the way, only to inevitably watch the USGA come along 10 years later to steal our idea. Just like how they directly lifted a few of our original rules for their "new rules" this year. (Speaking of that, make sure you check out our rulebook so you know the changes for 2019.)

To understand how we created the Slug Index, it's important to know our beliefs on the topic of slow play. We here at the MGA believe most slow players don't know they're slow. We believe that even if they do know, they don't know which part of their game is the slowest. We also believe most people would want to pick up the pace if they knew they were the one holding up the group.

The Slug Index™ is a peer review system where medios can anonymously rate other medios in their chapter. There are six categories that will help players pinpoint where they need to improve their pace.

  • Readiness when it's their turn.
  • Full swing pre-shot routine.
  • Short game pre-shot routine.
  • Green reading routine.
  • Time spent looking for lost balls.
  • Overall pace of play.

Players are rated from 1 (FAST) to 7 (SLUG) in each category. Those numbers are then averaged to produce a Slug Index for that review, which is further averaged into the player's overall Slug Index. You will be able to rate each player in your chapter only twice per season.

With the Slug Index appearing on player's profile pages, it's our hope that egos will come into play and everyone's competitive streak will make them strive for the lowest Slug Index possible. That's why we will also be putting a Slug Index column on the Player Stats page, so Top Medios can see where they rank globally.

In addition, each player's Slug Index will be available to Chapter Leaders when they are creating the pairings for their tournaments. This will now allow them to spread the slower players out across the event, eliminating any log jams.

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE: All of these wonderful benefits completely depend on medios taking part in this great experiment with minimal fucking-around-ness. That's a kinda big ask for us, but it's to everyone's benefit if you all get involved and review people fairly and honestly.

We recommend you don't rate anyone until after you've played a round with them in 2019. It's important that you pay attention to all the different categories when you're paired with them at a tournament, so they get good information on where they can improve their pace. We created a Slug Tracker Sheet that you can print out before each event so you can keep notes on your group. This sheet is available for download on the Slug Index page.

To be clear, we didn't create this to rush or shame anyone. It's merely a tool to help everyone improve their pace just a bit so we can stop racing the sunset at the MGAWC each year. Have fun out there and let's make history together!

Dam i already got slug rated. Youre supposed to play with me in a 2019 tournament first. Premature eslugulation.

Easy now. You need to be cautious about being salty with a slug rating of 5.25.
