BERLIN, MD---Mike Thomason picked up his fourth Mediocre Golf Association (MGA) victory, defending his FORE! Championship victory from 2025.
After winning the event last year by four shots, his net 87 at Eagle’s Landing was good for a seven-shot victory this season, tying the second-highest margin of victory in Lower Shore Chapter history.

It was a steady round for Thomason, who becomes the first two-time winner of the 2026 season, making eight pars, nine bogies and just one double on the day. Most importantly, he maintained a firm grip on the glass trophy, more than we can say about last year’s now shattered hardware.
The $1.28 payday for Thomason vaults him to the top of the “Money” list, as he tries to defend his title.
Steve Jones took second place in the event, firing a 92, his best finish and lowest score of his MGA career.
Jim Frenette finished third with a net 94, followed by Frank Clymer’s net 96 and Gus Rivas’ 97.
Dave Battista, who finished in sixth place, claimed the Forgotten 50 Closest to the Pin contest, hitting his tee shot to just outside seven feet on the eighth hole, edging out Kelly Shannahan’s shot by a few inches in the preceding group.
Shannahan took the Meltdown Award, matching Scott Deosaran, each going three shots higher on the back nine than the front. Battista was also named Most Mediocre, with his 98 on the day.
Despite being disqualified with a 78 on the day, Tim Brennan earned a win on the Long Drive Hole and the Money Hole.
Up next for the Lower Shore Chapter is the Douche Bag Open, Saturday, September 19, at Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, MD. It marks the final event of qualifying for the Old Bay Cup, played in October against members of the Kent Island Chapter. With the FORE! Championship results, Clymer and Brennan have secured spots on the team, which the remaining six spots will be determined at Great Hope.
